I remember one day, in that 4th-grade classroom, I was left in the far back of the room, feeling worthless, inadequate, muted, and abandoned…all at the same time. “You see, throughout the year, my teacher decided to humiliate me OFTEN by calling me “Moose” in front of the whole class, and let me hear the gleeful responses of laughter…from some of my classmates.

I was 9 years old and my choice to speak and my ability to feel was somehow disappearing…Somehow the absence of my courage made me feel like this was acceptable and I remained silent…not telling a soul.”
