Simple Peace
Since the day I was born, God has always surrounded me. I was blessed with the wonderful opportunity of having my grandparents escort me to church regularly, my mother pray for me, my aunt and uncle demonstrate such kindness to me and others, and my Grandma Bassett, my favorite, reflect a mysterious radiance.
Years ago as I began to form a deeper relationship with God and Jesus, I searched God’s word, my memory, and my heart to find out what these mysteries I had witnessed in my Grandma Bassett were. I reminisced about her constant outpouring of love, the sweet grin that was always on her face, and her unsettling habit of continuously talking to herself (in actuality she was talking to Jesus). At the same time I was searching, I personally experienced something in my life that filled me with an amazing peace in my soul. I realized that the answers I had been searching for were profound, yet simple as I discovered one little thing. Behind my Grandma’s “mysterious” behaviors was the most important part of herself, which no one could have been responsible for but Jesus. The unconditional love she learned to replicate and the beautiful grin she constantly wore on her face were caused by nothing less than the ultimate peace within her. She Inspired Me!
Breathing
Upon my face I will reflect You well.
I will reflect a deep breath of solace,
A moment floating,
A lifetime of sharing…
Your peace with me.
This is one of my shortest testimonies in I Love to Live…for Jesus! One that I hope reminds us that our character and the way we conduct ourselves on a daily basis, has an opportunity to affect others. I am sure my Grandma had no idea of her influence on me, but her actions contributed to the way I feel. She indeed defined peace and left great shoes to fill. Maya Angelo has an amazing quote that sums this right up;
